World Cup: Health update on Fakhar Zaman, Salman Ali Agha

 Thursday, October 19, 2023

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PBC) on Thursday gave an update on the health status of opener Fakhar Zaman and all-rounder Agha Salman.

The board said Fakhar Zaman is undergoing treatment for a knee injury and will be available for selection next week.

While Agha Salman is down with fever after training yesterday (Wednesday) and is recovering from it.

The PCB said the rest of the players from the 15-man squad are doing well.

After a fever scare, almost all the players, except Muhammad Haris, were seen training in Bangalore on Wednesday ahead of the team's World Cup match against Australia, scheduled for October 20.

Haris has been advised to rest after contracting fever, while other players who fell ill earlier were seen training at full strength in the country.

On Tuesday, six players of the Pakistan team "skipped" an optional practice session at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The six players who did not take part in today's training session include Abdullah Shafique, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi and Agha Salman along with traveling reserves Zaman Khan and Mohammad Haris.

The Green Shirts practiced for two hours from 18:00 to 20:00 (IST) after changing their schedule to stay away from training on Tuesday.

Players who showed symptoms of fever were immediately checked according to the team's medical protocol. Additionally, in line with safety measures, all players have been tested for COVID-19 and screened for dengue-related symptoms.

However, there is no reason to worry about the health of the players in the Pakistan team, as confirmed by team sources.

Pakistan have registered two wins in three matches so far, but their only defeat came against arch-rivals India on Saturday.
