Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his disappointment at the courts' biased attitude towards Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and criticized the "double standards of justice" for his rival, his corruption cases.
He condemned the judiciary for protecting the PTI chief as an iron shield and said the coalition government would take all steps to ensure rule of law in Pakistan.
"The judiciary has become an iron shield for Imran Khan," the prime minister said while addressing a cabinet meeting in Islamabad.
The prime minister's comment came a day after Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial ordered the PTI chairman's release and declared his May 9 arrest "illegal".
Khan was arrested on the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) by Rangers personnel - acting on the orders of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) - in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
The prime minister also questioned the judiciary regarding the treatment of other politicians in the country.
"Politicians have been sent to jail in bogus cases. Has any court ever noticed?" he asked.
Commenting on the history of cases by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the prime minister said the anti-graft body has spared no one and poisoned the entire country - from industries and educational institutions to religious institutions.
