US envoy visits detained American journalist Gershkovich in Russian prison

 Tuesday, August 15, 2023

Lynne Tracy, the US envoy to Russia, visited the detained writer Evan Gershkovich and repeated her request for his delivery from the Russian jail where he has been hung on surveillance related allegations for around four and a half months.

The 31-year-old Money Road columnist Gershkovich gave off an impression of being "healthy" notwithstanding spending almost four and a half months in guardianship, Tracy said through a delegate.

"By and by, the US approaches the Russian Organization to quickly deliver Evan Gershkovich and furthermore to deliver unjustly kept US resident Paul Whelan," the representative said.

Gershkovich and Whelan, a previous US Marine and corporate security master are being hung on doubt of undercover work. The cases have been considered bogus and politically propelled by the US, and the two men have kept up with their guiltlessness.

On Walk 29, Gershkovich was kept while directing a report in Yekaterinburg, a Russian city near the Ural Mountains. His April capture was maintained by a court, in this way he is currently being kept in pre-preliminary detainment.

The last time a US columnist was confined on undercover work allegations was during the Virus War.

Tracy and Gershkovich have met two times, when on 17 April and when on 3 July.

Before this, US authorities griped that they were denied admittance to the writer who is being held in Moscow

Whelan, in the mean time, was captured in 2018 at a Moscow inn after supposedly getting a thumb drive with knowledge data, as per examiners. He was eventually condemned to 16 years in jail.

In 2022, the organization of US President Joe Biden said that authorities had made a "serious proposition" to get Whelan back as a component of a detainee trade.

In any case, when such an arrangement happened in December, it just involved the arrival of US ball player Brittney Griner, who had been kept for maryjane ownership. She was liberated in kind for the arrival of famous "dealer of death" Viktor Session, a Russian arms merchant.

It was the second time Whelan had not been remembered for a detainee trade with Russia.

The US exchanged Konstantin Yaroshenko, a Russian pilot sentenced for cocaine sneaking, for Marine veteran Trevor Reed in April 2022. Reed had served three years in jail for supposedly going after a cop.

As the US keeps on haggling for another detainee trade, Whelan and his family have communicated worry that he could by and by be avoided with regards to any likely trade.

"Paul's feeling of dread toward being abandoned a third time was evidently unmistakable in his discussion with our folks yesterday," his sibling David Whelan told the Money Road Diary in April.

Whelan's and Gershkovich's captures have come during a time of elevated pressures between the US and Russia, especially directly following the last option's full-scale attack of Ukraine in February 2022.
