Court Extends Remand of Suspects in Hina Javed Murder Case
RAWALPINDI: A Rawalpindi district and sessions court has extended the physical remand of two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of 45-year-old digital media executive Hina Javed, allowing police additional time to investigate the case and collect further evidence.
The suspects, identified as Hina Javed’s husband Faisal Asghar and domestic worker Zeeshan, were produced before the court after the completion of their previous period of police custody.
Police requested a further seven-day physical remand, telling the court that investigators needed additional time to recover important evidence and documents connected with the case. After hearing the arguments, the court granted a four-day extension and directed police to produce both suspects again on September 2.
Hina Javed’s Death
Hina Javed was found dead at a residence in Rawalpindi’s Lalkurti area on August 20. According to reports, her body was discovered in a bathroom, with her hands reportedly tied behind her back and a wire found around her neck.
Police subsequently arrested her husband and the domestic worker as part of the investigation. A murder case was registered at Civil Lines Police Station under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Hina’s brother.
Police Seek More Time for Investigation
During the latest proceedings, investigators said they still needed to collect and examine evidence related to the circumstances surrounding Hina’s death.
Police have also been investigating documents connected with Asghar’s previous marriage and divorce, as well as his subsequent marriage to Hina. Investigators have previously collected forensic evidence and DNA samples from the suspects.
The court’s decision gives investigators additional time to complete these steps before the suspects are brought before the court again.
Forensic Investigation Continues
The investigation has included post-mortem and forensic examinations. Earlier reports said the post-mortem examination identified injuries to Hina’s body, including a fractured neck bone and injuries to other parts of the body.
DNA samples were collected and sent for forensic analysis. Investigators have also examined evidence recovered from the crime scene as they work to establish the exact circumstances and cause of death.
Domestic Worker’s Alleged Confession
Police have also claimed that domestic worker Zeeshan confessed to involvement in Hina’s death. However, the investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations and statements made during the investigation still have to be examined through forensic evidence and the judicial process.
Police have been investigating the role of different individuals in the case, including Hina’s father-in-law, who has been questioned but has not been arrested, according to reports.
Family Seeks Justice
The case has attracted significant public attention, while Hina Javed’s family has called for a thorough investigation and justice. The family’s lawyer has previously said that investigators had collected evidence and conducted forensic examinations and that the investigation was moving in the right direction.
The latest remand extension means police will have more time to complete their investigation before the next court hearing.
The suspects are expected to be produced before the court again on September 2, 2026. Until the investigation and judicial proceedings are completed, allegations against the suspects remain subject to the due process of law.
The case remains under investigation, with police continuing to examine forensic evidence, statements and other material to determine exactly what happened to Hina Javed.
