HANGU: Six Pakistan Army personnel, including two officers, were martyred during an exchange of fire between security forces and militants in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The incident took place on September 20, 2026, when a security forces convoy came under fire in Hangu, the military's media wing said. Security forces responded to the attack, resulting in the deaths of eight militants, according to the ISPR.

Two Officers Among Six Martyred

The two officers who lost their lives were identified as Captain Abuzar Farooq and Lieutenant Sheraz Babar.

According to reports citing the ISPR, both officers were leading their troops during the engagement. Four other security personnel were also martyred during the exchange of fire.

Eight Militants Killed

The ISPR said that eight militants were killed as security forces responded during the intense exchange of fire.

The military said the incident occurred in Hangu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and described the operation as part of the continuing counter-terrorism efforts in the region.

Sanitisation Operation Underway

Following the exchange, a sanitisation operation was launched in the area to search for any remaining militants, according to the ISPR.
