KP Security Operations: 21 Militants Killed in Multiple Engagements, ISPR Says
RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s security forces have killed 21 militants during multiple engagements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military’s media wing said the operations were conducted between September 3 and 5, 2026, as part of continuing efforts to counter militant activity and strengthen security along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
According to details reported by Geo News, 17 militants were killed during engagements along the border area opposite North Waziristan, while four others were eliminated in separate encounters in Kohat and Dera Ismail Khan districts.
The latest operations followed an earlier engagement on the night of August 31 and September 1, when security forces reportedly foiled an infiltration attempt along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. ISPR said 15 militants were killed during that engagement.
The military said that after the initial operation, another group of militants was detected moving in the border area. Security forces responded to the movement, resulting in further casualties among the militants.
The ISPR also reported that additional encounters took place in Kohat and Dera Ismail Khan, where four militants were killed during joint security operations.
Continued Security Operations
Security forces have continued intelligence-based and targeted operations in KP, particularly in areas affected by militant activity. Such operations are aimed at identifying militant movements, disrupting their networks and preventing attacks against civilians and security personnel.
ISPR said sanitisation operations were continuing in the affected areas to ensure that no remaining militants were able to establish positions or pose further threats.
The military also reiterated its position that repeated cross-border incidents highlight concerns about security management along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Pakistani authorities have repeatedly called for stronger measures to prevent militant groups from using territory across the border for attacks inside Pakistan.
Focus on Border Security
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains one of Pakistan’s key security-sensitive regions, particularly because of its proximity to Afghanistan. Security forces have increased surveillance and intelligence-led operations in several districts in response to militant threats.
The latest operation is therefore being viewed as another part of Pakistan’s broader counterterrorism campaign. Authorities have maintained that operations will continue until remaining militant threats are addressed.
The ISPR statement said Pakistan’s security forces remain committed to protecting the country’s borders and maintaining security despite continued challenges in the region.
