Pakistan Remittances Surge to $3.66 Billion in August as Overseas Inflows Strengthen Economy

Pakistan workers remittances rise to $3.66 billion in August 2026

Pakistan Receives $3.66 Billion in Remittances in August as Overseas Inflows Rise

Pakistan’s workers’ remittances continued their strong growth in August 2026, reaching $3.66 billion, according to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The figure represents a 16.5% increase compared with August 2025, when remittance inflows stood at around $3.14 billion.

The latest numbers provide another positive signal for Pakistan’s external sector, as remittances remain an important source of foreign exchange and support millions of families across the country.

Remittances Reach $7.29 Billion in Two Months

During the first two months of the ongoing fiscal year 2026-27, Pakistan received approximately $7.29 billion in workers’ remittances. This was around 14.7% higher than the same period a year earlier. August inflows also increased slightly from July, when Pakistan received approximately $3.63 billion.

The sustained increase suggests that overseas Pakistanis continue to play a major role in supporting the country's economy through regular financial transfers to their families.

Saudi Arabia Remains the Largest Source

Saudi Arabia remained Pakistan’s biggest source of remittances in August, contributing approximately $873 million. The amount was around 19% higher than the $737 million received from Saudi Arabia in August 2025.

The United Arab Emirates ranked second with approximately $750 million, showing growth of about 17% compared with the same month last year.

The United Kingdom contributed around $564 million, while remittances from the United States reached approximately $309 million.

Why Remittances Matter for Pakistan

Remittances are a crucial source of foreign exchange for Pakistan. They help families meet household expenses, support education and healthcare costs, and provide financial assistance to relatives across the country.

At the national level, strong remittance inflows can also improve foreign-exchange liquidity and contribute to the stability of Pakistan’s external account.

Pakistan recorded a record $41.6 billion in remittances during FY2026, making overseas Pakistani contributions an increasingly important part of the country's economic picture.

Positive Outlook for the Economy

The continued rise in remittances could provide additional support to Pakistan’s foreign-exchange position during the current fiscal year. If strong inflows continue in the coming months, they could help strengthen reserves and reduce pressure on the external sector.

For millions of Pakistani families, however, the numbers represent more than an economic statistic. They reflect the earnings and sacrifices of overseas workers who continue sending money home to support their families and contribute to Pakistan’s economy.

Conclusion: The $3.66 billion remittance figure for August highlights the continued importance of overseas Pakistanis to Pakistan’s economic stability. With $7.29 billion received during the first two months of FY2027, remittances are off to a strong start and could remain a key source of foreign exchange throughout the year.
