Pakistan Rejects Escalation Between US and Iran, Reaffirms Commitment to Dialogue and Peace

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the latest escalation between the United States and Iran, describing the renewed hostilities as “concerning and undesirable” while reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful efforts to resolve the conflict.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, speaking at the Foreign Office’s weekly media briefing on Wednesday, said Pakistan remained hopeful that the situation could eventually be brought back to the negotiating table despite the recent exchange of attacks.

“Despite recent escalations, we remain hopeful, and we will continue to strive for dialogue and diplomacy,” the spokesperson said, stressing that Pakistan had not abandoned its efforts to encourage a peaceful resolution.

The latest escalation comes after a period of relative calm between Washington and Tehran. The United States has carried out a fresh wave of strikes against Iranian military and strategic targets, while Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks against US military positions in parts of the Middle East.

Pakistan Calls for Restraint

Islamabad has consistently maintained that military confrontation is not a sustainable solution to disputes between states. Pakistan believes that continued fighting could further destabilise an already fragile Middle East and create serious consequences for neighbouring countries as well as the wider international community.

Andrabi said Pakistan was closely monitoring developments and remained engaged in diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions. He noted that conflicts generally pass through different stages, including escalation, de-escalation, periods of calm, ceasefires and eventually negotiations.

According to the Foreign Office, the current escalation should not be viewed as the end of diplomatic efforts. Instead, Islamabad believes that the renewed fighting makes dialogue even more important.

Pakistan’s position reflects its broader call for all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could make the situation more difficult to control.

Islamabad Remains Engaged in Peace Efforts

Renewed US-Iran Fighting Raises Regional Concerns

The latest confrontation has increased fears of a broader conflict across the Middle East.

The United States recently announced that its military had completed another wave of strikes against Iranian targets, including air-defence systems, radar installations, maritime assets and communications facilities.
