SC hearing on pleas challenging bill clipping CJP's powers today

The High Court (SC) is set to continue the consultation on the supplications testing the SC (Practice and System) Act, 2023, abridging the main equity's powers, at 12:30pm today (Monday).


An eight-part bigger seat of the summit court headed by Boss Equity of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial and involving Equity Ijaz ul Ahsan, Equity Munib Akhtar, Equity Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, Equity Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Equity Ayesha A Malik, Equity Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Equity Shahid Waheed, will hear the requests.


On the past hearing, CJP Bandial had turned down the principal legal officer's supplication to pull out the stay request limiting execution on the bill, the top court had passed on April 13.


"Our visit request of the last hearing is set up. Regulation connected with the High Court rules are extremely clear," the main equity had said.


In the mean time, a solicitation for the constitution of a full court and expulsion of certain adjudicators from the seat, for hearing the case had likewise been made during the last hearing.
