The PML-Q promises to contest the polls independently.
PML-N is trying to woo rival PPP in Sindh.
PPP says it is not afraid of PML-N moves.
LAHORE: Quaid's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-Q) on Sunday dismissed reports of a merger, saying there would only be seat adjustments with the Nawaz Sharif-led party in some constituencies.
In a statement on Sunday, PML-Q General Secretary Punjab Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said his party is not merging with any other political party.
Shafay said that the party would retain its individual status and that its candidates would participate in the elections on the tractor symbol.
The PML-Q leader cleared the air after reports claimed that the party may get an option to merge with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the coming days if Chaudhry Shujaat wants seats for his two sons and the party. General Secretary Tariq Bashir Cheema.
It further said that the PML-N is trying to woo other political forces into its fold for the upcoming polls.
The PML-Q was an important ally in Shahbaz Sharif's coalition government and played a key role in ousting Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion.
After the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced the date for the elections, political activities increased in the country.
Last week, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) announced that it would contest the polls along with the PML-N, and a committee was formed to draft proposals.
On Sunday, a PML-N delegation met the MQM-P leadership in Karachi and discussed the "electoral alliance and future strategies".
The party is also reaching out to other rivals of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) in Sindh to form a grand alliance.
PPP unhappy
On the other hand, reacting to the statement of PML-N leaders in Karachi, PPP leader Sharjeel Memon said that Nawaz League always came to power through manipulation which was bitter truth but PPP wanted to move forward.
“Whatever party the PML-N forms an alliance with, the PPP will square off in the upcoming elections,” he declared.
PML-N always remembered the people of Sindh during election years, he added.
Sharjeel told a press conference on Sunday that PPP has built houses for the people of Sindh.
And the ruling Punjab never even built proper hospital facilities for the people. How many houses had PML-N built for people who could not afford them, he asked.
“Incompetent people were imposed on the country in 2018 and we do not want to repeat the same mistake in 2024,” he said.
