Three more terrorists were cornered by the security forces, ISPR.
Three aircraft grounded, fuel bow sustained some damage.
RAWALPINDI: Security forces foiled a failed terrorist attack on the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Mianwali training base in the early hours of Saturday, killing three militants, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
According to the Army's media wing: “4. November 2023, in the early hours of the morning, the Mianwali Air Training Base of the Pakistan Air Force came under a failed terrorist attack, which, Alhumdolliah, due to the prompt and effective response of the troops, was foiled and thwarted, ensuring the safety and security of personnel and property."
The statement said three terrorists were neutralized while entering the base while the remaining three were cornered/isolated due to the timely and effective response of the troops who displayed exceptional courage and timely response.
"However, three already grounded aircraft and a fuel tank were also damaged during the attack," the statement said.
It further added that a comprehensive joint clearing and combing operation is in its final stages to clear the area completely.
"The Pakistan Armed Forces remain determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country at all costs," the ISPR said.
14 soldiers died in the terrorist attack
A day earlier, 14 soldiers were martyred in a terrorist attack on two vehicles carrying security forces in Gwadar. The incident occurred when the security convoy was moving from Pasni to Ormara in Gwadar district.
The ISPR said a sanitation operation was underway in the area and the perpetrators "of this heinous act will be hunted down [and] brought to justice".
Interim Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani strongly condemned the terrorist attack.
"Such acts are utterly reprehensible. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the martyred and injured. Pakistan is determined against terrorists," he said in a post on X.
TTP suicide bomber among two terrorists killed in KP IBO
Besides, two terrorists, including a suicide bomber from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), were killed on Friday while two others were injured in separate Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Three soldiers also lost their lives in one IBO and a separate incident of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan district.
In a separate IBO conducted in Lakki Marwat district, security forces busted various terrorist hideouts and killed one terrorist.
Unfortunately, two soldiers – Naik Zafar Iqbal, 37, from Gujranwala and Sepoy Haji Jan, 30, from Gilgit Baltistan – lost their lives as they fought gallantly in an intense firefight.
Moreover, another soldier, Havildar Shahid Iqbal, 39, of Mirpurkhas, received martyrdom in an IED blast in Kulachi DI Khan area.
Pakistan is facing a daunting challenge of terrorism in the last year as there have been several incidents of terror and violence recently. Earlier today, 14 soldiers were martyred when terrorists attacked a convoy of security forces in Gwadar.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir said last week that the armed forces and their security and intelligence formations have fought the menace of terrorism in an exemplary manner despite sustained and varied support from enemy forces.
"Success will be ours InshAllah with the continued support of the people of Pakistan," said COAS Munir.
The Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) said in a report released in October that security forces lost at least 386 personnel in the first nine months of 2023, an eight-year high.
In the third quarter of 2023, about 445 people lost their lives and 440 were injured in up to 190 terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism operations.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were the primary centers of violence, accounting for nearly 94% of all deaths and 89% of attacks (including terrorist incidents and security force operations) recorded during the period.
