The people will decide the next prime minister, says Rana Sanaullah.
He says there is no legal bar for Nawaz to contest the upcoming elections.
Shehbaz Sharif will remain party chairman, ex-minister claims.

With the upcoming general elections around the corner, senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah on Thursday said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has the right to block the path of a "prime minister in Lahore". and pave the way for the premiere from Larkana.

Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Sanaullah said that the next prime minister would be decided by the people and hoped that their decision would be acceptable to all of them.

His remarks came as a bitter verbal clash between the PPP and the PML-N — two former allies in the previous coalition government led by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) — intensified after the Election Commission of Pakistan announced the country's February 8 election. , 2024.

The romance between the two former allies ended after the PDM-led coalition government completed its term in August and both the PPP and the PML-N clashed over election-related issues.

In September, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari blamed the PML-N for being denied a level playing field. Without naming it, he subtly mocked the PML-N by saying that it was "really strange" that a certain party knew the date of the elections.

On November 6, Zardari hoped that his son Bilawal would win by sunrise on February 8 next year, when the country will hold general elections.

Bilawal expressed hope that the next Prime Minister of the country will not be from "Lahore" - the stronghold of PML-N.

After mocking PML-N supremo Nawaz, who returned to the country on October 21 after ending a four-year self-imposed exile in London, Zardari on Tuesday said he was not leaving the country because he was bound by his workers.

"What will I say to my worker when I look into his eyes," Zardari further said. He added that his party does its own politics, whether it is the politics of others.

On the other hand, to make things difficult for PPP in Sindh, PML-N and MQM-P have decided to fight together in the upcoming general elections.

"Ready for talks with PTI leadership minus May 9"

Talking to the media, the PML-N leader said that there is no legal hurdle for Nawaz to stand in the upcoming general or by-elections.

Responding to a question, the former security czar said the PML-N supremo would soon hold a meeting with the leadership of various political parties, including PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. He claimed that Shehbaz Sharif will remain the party chairman.

"We are ready to hold talks with the PTI leadership minus May 9 on the economic revival of the country," he added.

In a rare move, the PTI also announced the formation of a "political engagement committee" to reach out to rival parties ahead of the upcoming polls.

The five-member committee consists of Senator Ali Zafar, Senator Dr Humayun Mohmand, Ali Muhammad Khan, Ali Asghar Khan and Raoof Hasan, read a party announcement shared on its official X account, formerly known as Twitter.
