3 Maldivian ministers suspended for mocking Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to foreign media, the government of Maldives has suspended 3 of its deputy ministers for making fun of the Indian Prime Minister on social media.

Malsa Sharif and Mahzoom Majid, along with the Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs in Maldives, Maryam Shauna, called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi a terrorist, a puppet of Israel and a clown on social media.

In New Delhi, Maldivian High Commissioner Ibrahim Shaheeb was summoned by the Indian Foreign Office and strongly protested over his insulting remarks against Narendra Modi.

A spokesperson for the Maldivian Foreign Ministry said the ministers' comments were personal and did not represent the views of the government.

The President of the Maldives, Muhammad Moeizu, issued orders for the suspension of the three deputy ministers and an investigation against them.

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, 3 months ago, the elected President of Maldives, Muhammad Muizhu, had raised the slogan 'India Out' in the election and demanded the withdrawal of the Indian army from the Maldives.

After being elected as the President, Muhammed Mueizu chose Turkey and China instead of India for his first visit.
