ISLAMABAD (News advertisment- DW Urdu - 12 December 2021) - Russia has been warned by countries in the Group of Seven (G7) of the world's seven largest industrialized nations on the basis of reports that Russia has troops on the Ukrainian border. Extending the deployment of
British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss says the group has sent a clear message to Vladimir Putin.
He said any attack on Ukraine by Russia would have "very serious consequences".
The British city of Liverpool is hosting the G7 summit. The group includes Britain, Germany, France, the United States, Italy, Canada and Japan.
Recently, there has been a sharp increase in the deployment of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border.
An estimated 100,000 Russian troops are stationed near the Ukrainian border, raising fears that Russia could invade Ukraine. Russia rejects any such plan.
The Moscow government says the expansion of the Western defense alliance NATO to the east poses a threat to Russia. Russia has in the past bombed parts of Georgia in 2008.
Georgia was then targeting its own separatists. A recent statement from Russia's foreign intelligence service said that Ukraine should refrain from making decisions such as Georgia's accession to NATO because Georgia had to pay a heavy price.
