Peshawar: An overseas Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporter has been accused of abusing senior police officials after his video went viral.

The individual, who currently resides in Saudi Arabia, was heard in his video abusing senior officials of the police force to file cases against political workers.

According to reports, a case has been filed against Said Wali, who belongs to Upper Dir, for using abusive language against top police officials following a crackdown on leaders, workers and supporters of the Imran Khan-led party.

Another video of Wali went viral on social media in which he claimed that eight First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered against him. He also claimed that the cases booked are not based on reality.

Meanwhile, the police refused to comment on the matter.

Violent protesters, including PTI workers and supporters, raged after Khan was arrested by Punjab Rangers on May 9 to comply with a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) warrant in the £190 million settlement case.

The PTI chief's arrest enraged party activists, who took to the streets in several cities across the country and damaged public and private property, including military installations. Many, on the other hand, took to online spaces and social media websites to channel their anger.

Several PTI leaders, workers and supporters posted videos, pictures, posts, tweets and messages online calling for demonstrations and openly abusing the government, law enforcement agencies and other state institutions to protest the detention of their chairman.

The government has since launched a crackdown not only against those who participated in the unrest on the streets, but also against those who resorted to abuse in the online space, helping to incite hatred and violence in the process.
