KARACHI: Top state leader Shehbaz Sharif is set to officially initiate the much-anticipated 34th Public Games in what is generally anticipated to be an amazing service in Quetta today.

Kveta last hosted the National Games in 2004. On Sunday, organizers also discussed the opening ceremony, which is the most important part of the games.


Sources said that strict security measures have been taken to ensure that the inauguration ceremony takes place in the most befitting manner. They added that security forces were closely monitoring every movement on Sunday.


They further added that police officers were also seen at the hotels where the athletes are staying and outsiders are not allowed to enter these hotels.


The Balochistan IG is making all efforts to ensure maximum security of the participating athletes and games officials, sources said, adding that a full dress rehearsal was underway at the Ayub Stadium. The test started after the men's football final between PAF and Police, which was eventually won by Police 3-0.


The secretariat has been set up at the Ayub Stadium, which also houses the office of the Director General of the Balochistan Sports Board and the Games Media Center.


An Olympic Secretariat has been set up at the Bugti Stadium, which houses Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) officials.


Sources said there are some administrative issues and information is not being shared on time.


However, they added that most of the contingents of the participating units have arrived in Quetta and are ready to participate in the opening ceremony.


Besides, sources said each athlete gets Rs 1,000 as daily allowance while officials get Rs 1,500 per day to meet their per diems during the games.


Two-time Olympic judoka Shah Hussain from Tokyo has also arrived in Quetta and will be part of the army contingent for the opening ceremony, sources said.


However, top karateka Saadi Abbas will miss the games due to personal issues. Saadi, a former Asian and US Open champion, was due to represent WAPDA at the Games but canceled his trip from Canada due to personal reasons.
