Patna (Urdu Point News Latest - NNI. 06 December 2023) A police officer who created a fake WhatsApp profile to influence official action against a former Chief Justice of Patna High Court has surrendered, according to Bharti TV. 2011 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Aditya Kumar surrendered before a court in Patna on Tuesday after the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea.
Kumar, a superintendent-rank police officer, had allegedly duped Singhal, the then DGPS of Bihar, through a fake WhatsApp account with a profile picture of former chief justice Sanjay Karol. Allegedly, a co-accused Contacted Bihar's top cop via WhatsApp number and asked him to withdraw the case against Kumar for his alleged involvement with the liquor mafia.
After the lower courts rejected the bail application, Aditya Kumar approached the Supreme Court for bail, but the Supreme Court also dismissed the bail application and directed the IPS officer to surrender. A division bench comprising Justice Allah, Justice Anirudh Bose and Justice Augustine George Masih said that the major case involving the IPS officer and two other judicial officers cannot be ignored.
The court is of the opinion that the petitioner is not entitled to the benefit of anticipatory bail, the order said, mainly because of the seriousness and gravity of the alleged offenses and the apparent non-cooperation. Also ordered that he produce the entire case diary of the criminal case in a sealed envelope on the next date of hearing on December 12.
